A reference in HomePod firmware has revealed that a next-generation Apple TV might come with the support for 4K video as well as High Dynamic Range (HDR) in both 10-bit and Dolby Vision formats for better picture quality.
According to a report on technology website Appleinsider.com, while developer Guilherme Rambo discovered these references in Apple's smart speaker HomePod firmware, an Apple enthusiast Marc Bach pointed out on Twitter that HLG, also known as Hybrid Log-Gamma, is another supported HDR mode.
The references confirm that the next-generation Apple TV will not only include support for ultra-high-definition 4K content, but also three popular HDR modes for better contrast and colours.
The leak comes a few weeks after Apple accidentally confirmed 4K and HDR plans on the iTunes Store. Previously, the next iPhone's screen design and face unlock or virtual home button features were revealed in the HomePod firmware.
