During 2001 to 2015, we have seen a Compound Annual Growth Rate (CAGR) of 3.52% in Total road length in India. During this period, more 2098624.255 Kms. added towards total road length in India. The total road length in India as on 31st March of each year from 2001 to 2015 were 3373520 Kms., 3426600 Kms., 3528654 Kms., 3621507 Kms., 3809156 Kms., 3880651 Kms., 4016401 Kms., 4109592 Kms., 4471509.812 Kms., 4582439 Kms., 4676838 Kms., 4865394 Kms., 5231922 Kms., 5402485.625 Kms. and 5472144.255 Kms. respectively.
There are various Categories of roads in India like National Highways, State Highways, Other PWD Roads, Panchayat Raj Roads, JRY & PMGSY Roads, Urban Roads and Project Roads. As on 31st March 2015, the length of National Highways in India was 97991.12 Kms. It accounted for 1.79% of the total road length in India as on same time period. As on 31st March 2015, the length of State Highways in India was 167109.135 Kms. It accounted for 3.05% of the total road length in India as on same time period. As on 31st March 2015, the length of Other PWD Roads in India was 1101178 Kms. It accounted for 20.05% of the total road length in India as on same time period.
As on 31st March 2015, the length of Panchayat Raj Roads in India was 1831043 Kms. It accounted for 33.46% of the total road length in India as on same time period. As on 31st March 2015, the length of JRY & PMGSY Roads in India was 1506212 Kms. It accounted for 27.53% of the total road length in India as on same time period. As on 31st March 2015, the length of Urban Roads in India was 467106 Kms. It accounted for 8.54% of the total road length in India as on same time period. As on 31st March 2015, the length of Project Roads in India was 301505 Kms. It accounted for 5.51% of the total road length in India as on same time period.
