Wholesale price index comprises as far as possible all transactions at first point of bulk sale in the domestic market and released by Office of the Economic Advisor, M/o Commerce and Industries. The current series consists of 102 Primary Articles, 19 Fuel and Power items, and 555 Manufactured Products covering all important items transacted in the economy. The weighing diagram for the WPI series has been derived on the basis of Gross Value of Output. The price data are collected on a self-disclosure basis from individual private sector firms and official sources. National Sample Survey Office also facilitates collection of price data from organized manufacturing units. The current series of Wholesale Price Index has 2011-12 as Base Year.

It has shown total increase of 11.5 points in Wholesale Price Index during this period. However, there have been inter-month fluctuations in the Wholesale Price Index for Fruits & Vegetables during this period; ranging from minimum of 117.5 points in the month of January 2017 to maximum of 131 points in the month of April 2017. The monthly average value of the Wholesale Price Index of Fruits & Vegetables during this period was 125.2 points. Milk has a weightage of 4.43999 in Wholesale Price Index. The Wholesale Price Index of Milk increased from 135 points in the month of January 2017 to 138 points in the month of May 2017. It has shown total increase of 3 points in Wholesale Price Index during this period. However, there have been inter-month fluctuations in the Wholesale Price Index for Milk during this period; ranging from minimum of 135 points in the month of January 2017 to maximum of 138 points in the month of May 2017. The monthly average value of the Wholesale Price Index of Milk during this period was 136.5 points.
Eggs, Meat & Fish have a weightage of 2.40156 in Wholesale Price Index. The Wholesale Price Index of Eggs, Meat & Fish increased from 134.7 points in the month of January 2017 to 136.4 points in the month of May 2017. It has shown total increase of 1.7 points in Wholesale Price Index during this period. The Wholesale Price Index of Condiments & Spices decreased from 141.8 points in the month of January 2017 to 121.4 points in the month of May 2017. It has shown total decrease of 20.4 points in Wholesale Price Index during this period. However, there have been inter-month fluctuations in the Wholesale Price Index for Condiments & Spices during this period; ranging from minimum of 121.4 points in the month of May 2017 to maximum of 141.8 points in the month of January 2017. The monthly average value of the Wholesale Price Index of Condiments & Spices during this period was 130.7 points.
Other Food Articles contains Tea, Coffee, Betel Leaves and Sugarcane in Wholesale Price Index. Other Food Articles have a weightage of 0.94799 in Wholesale Price Index. The Wholesale Price Index of Other Food Articles increased from 154.3 points in the month of January 2017 to 154.6 points in the month of May 2017. It has shown total increase of 0.3 points in Wholesale Price Index during this period. However, there have been inter-month fluctuations in the Wholesale Price Index for Other Food Articles during this period; ranging from minimum of 154.3 points in the month of January 2017 to maximum of 157 points in the month of March and April 2017. The monthly average value of the Wholesale Price Index of Other Food Articles during this period was 155.7 points.
