Wholesale price index comprises as far as possible all transactions at first point of bulk sale in the domestic market and released by Office of the Economic Advisor, M/o Commerce and Industries. The current series consists of 102 Primary Articles, 19 Fuel and Power items, and 555 Manufactured Products covering all important items transacted in the economy. The weighing diagram for the WPI series has been derived on the basis of Gross Value of Output. The price data are collected on a self-disclosure basis from individual private sector firms and official sources. National Sample Survey Office also facilitates collection of price data from organized manufacturing units. The current series of Wholesale Price Index has 2011-12 as Base Year. Under Primary Articles there are 4 categories of commodities named A. Food Articles, B. Non-Food Articles, C. Minerals and D. Crude Petroleum and Natural Gas.
Food Articles have a weightage of 15.25585 in Wholesale Price Index. The Wholesale Price Index of Food Articles decreased from 144 points in the month of June 2016 to 137.7 points in the month of May 2017. It has shown total decrease of -6.3 points in Wholesale Price Index during the period from June 2016 to May 2017. However, there have been inter-month fluctuations in the Wholesale Price Index for Food Articles during this period; ranging from minimum of 136.5 points in the month of January 2017 to maximum of 144.5 points in the month of July 2016. The monthly average value of the Wholesale Price Index of Food Articles during this period was 140.2 points.
Non-Food Articles have a weightage of 4.11894 in Wholesale Price Index. The Wholesale Price Index of Non-Food Articles decreased from 124.2 points in the month of June 2016 to 119.8 points in the month of May 2017. It has shown total decrease of -4.4 points in Wholesale Price Index during the period from June 2016 to May 2017. However, there have been inter-month fluctuations in the Wholesale Price Index for Non-Food Articles during this period; ranging from minimum of 117.7 points in the month of November 2016 to maximum of 126.5 points in the month of July 2016. The monthly average value of the Wholesale Price Index of Non-Food Articles during this period was 122.1 points.
Minerals have a weightage of 0.83317 in Wholesale Price Index. The Wholesale Price Index of Minerals decreased from 118.7 points in the month of June 2016 to 114.8 points in the month of May 2017. It has shown total decrease of -3.9 points in Wholesale Price Index during the period from June 2016 to May 2017. However, there have been inter-month fluctuations in the Wholesale Price Index for Minerals during this period; ranging from minimum of 95.8 points in the month of July 2016 to maximum of 128.6 points in the month of September 2016. The monthly average value of the Wholesale Price Index of Minerals during this period was 114.1 points.
Crude Petroleum and Natural Gas have a weightage of 2.4096 in Wholesale Price Index. The Wholesale Price Index of Crude Petroleum and Natural Gas decreased from 73.9 points in the month of June 2016 to 71.1 points in the month of May 2017. It has shown total decrease of -2.8 points in Wholesale Price Index during the period from June 2016 to May 2017. However, there have been inter-month fluctuations in the Wholesale Price Index for Crude Petroleum and Natural Gas during this period; ranging from minimum of 70.5 points in the month of November 2016 to maximum of 77.3 points in the month of January 2017. The monthly average value of the Wholesale Price Index of Crude Petroleum and Natural Gas during this period was 73.8 points.
