Top 10 States/UTs in terms of Primary Health Centres in India as on 31st March, 2017




There were 25650 Primary Health Centres in India as on 31st March, 2017. The top 10 States/UTs in terms of highest number of Primary Health Centres in India as on 31st March, 2017 were; Uttar Pradesh, Karnataka, Rajasthan, Bihar, Tamil Nadu, Maharashtra, Gujarat, Odisha, Madhya Pradesh and Andhra Pradesh.

In Uttar Pradesh there were 3621 Primary Health Centres as on 31st March, 2017. It accounted 14.12% of the total Primary Health Centres in India as on 31st March, 2017. In Karnataka there were 2359 Primary Health Centres as on 31st March, 2017. It accounted 9.2% of the total Primary Health Centres in India as on 31st March, 2017. In Rajasthan there were 2079 Primary Health Centres as on 31st March, 2017. It accounted 8.11% of the total Primary Health Centres in India as on 31st March, 2017.

There were 1899 Primary Health Centres in Bihar as on 31st March, 2017; which accounted 7.4% of the total Primary Health Centres in India. There were 1835 Primary Health Centres in Tamil Nadu as on 31st March, 2017; which accounted 7.15% of the total Primary Health Centres in India.

As on 31st March, 2017; there were 1814, 1392, 1280, 1171 and 1147 Primary Health Centres in Maharashtra, Gujarat, Odisha, Madhya Pradesh and Andhra Pradesh respectively. Maharashtra, Gujarat, Odisha, Madhya Pradesh and Andhra Pradesh accounted for 7.07%, 5.43%, 4.99%, 4.57% and 4.47% respectively of the total Primary Health Centres in India as on 31st March, 2017.

These top 10 States/UTs accounted for 72.5% of the total number of Primary Health Centres in India as a whole as on 31st March, 2017.

Note: For Arunachal Pradesh, Out of 588 total 312 Sub Centres are functional in the State; For Tamil Nadu, Out of Total 1835 PHCs 1362 PHCs are functioning in Rural areas, while 473 are in urban areas; Old name of district Gurugram was Gurgaon; Old name of district Nuh was Mewat; NA: Not Available.
