The new feature would allow you to scan objects and barcodes to show you results from Amazon.
If you are an avid Snapchat user, you might soon be able to use it to shop at Amazon. An app researcher has discovered a code indicating a Camera Search or Visual Search feature.
As the name suggests, the feature would allow you to scan objects and barcodes to show you results from Amazon, Engadget reported. It is not clear as to when the feature will officially roll out, but when it does, it would seek to place Snapchat more than just a platform for sharing messaging and possibly get the service a cut from the purchases.
Additionally, the report mentioned that "Snapchat already has a Shazam-based song finding functionality, and there's already an in-app shopping element. It wouldn't be much of a stretch to extend this to products you find in the real world."
Furthermore, Snapchat's cross-platform support might make this object recognition technology more accessible, however, for that the company needs to convince users that its app is about more than chatting with friends and sharing 'Stories.'
