Building Position of top 10 States/UTs in terms of functioning of Primary Health Centres as on 31st March 2017




The number of Primary Health Centres (PHCs) functioning in India was 25650 as on 31st March 2017. Out of these total 25650 PHCs functioning in India; 23322 (90.92%) were functioning in Government buildings, 839 (3.27%) were functioning in rented buildings and 1489 (5.81%) were functioning in rent free Panchayat/ Vol. society buildings as on 31-03-2017. The top 10 States/UTs in terms of functions of PHCs in India as on 31st March 2017 were Uttar Pradesh, Karnataka, Rajasthan, Bihar, Maharashtra, Gujarat, Tamil Nadu, Odisha, Madhya Pradesh and Andhra Pradesh.

There were 3621 PHCs functioning in Uttar Pradesh as on 31st March 2017; out of which 3516 (97.1%) were functioning in Government buildings, 105 (2.9%) were functioning in rented buildings and 0 (0%) were functioning in rent free Panchayat/ Vol. society buildings. The number of PHCs functioning in Karnataka was 2359 as on 31st March 2017; out of which 2280 (96.65%) were functioning in Government buildings, 38 (1.61%) were functioning in rented buildings and 41 (1.74%) were functioning in rent free Panchayat/ Vol. society buildings. There were 2079 PHCs functioning in Rajasthan as on 31st March 2017; out of which 1541 (74.12%) were functioning in Government buildings, 1 (0.05%) was functioning in rented buildings and 537 (25.83%) were functioning in rent free Panchayat/ Vol. society buildings.

As on 31st March 2017, the number of PHCs functioning in Bihar, Maharashtra, Gujarat, Tamil Nadu, Odisha, Madhya Pradesh and Andhra Pradesh was 1899, 1814, 1392, 1362, 1280, 1171 and 1147 respectively. The number of PHCs functioning in Government buildings in Bihar, Maharashtra, Gujarat, Tamil Nadu, Odisha, Madhya Pradesh and Andhra Pradesh was 1528 (80.46%), 1649 (90.9%), 1113 (79.96%), 1256 (92.22%), 1253 (97.89%), 1156 (98.72%) and 1147 (100%) respectively as on 31-03-2017.

The number of PHCs functioning in rented buildings in Bihar, Maharashtra, Gujarat, Tamil Nadu, Odisha, Madhya Pradesh and Andhra Pradesh was 371, 6, 12, 0, 0, 15 and 0 respectively as on 31st March 2017. The number of PHCs functioning in rent free Panchayat/ Vol. society buildings in Bihar, Maharashtra, Gujarat, Tamil Nadu, Odisha, Madhya Pradesh and Andhra Pradesh was 0, 159, 267, 106, 27, 0 and 0 respectively as on 31-03-2017.

Note: For Buildings required: All India figure of required number of building to be constructed = Total functioning – (Government Buildings + Under construction) (ignoring States/Uts having excess.); *: States having construction in excess of number of building required.
